Victorian Institute of Forensic MedicineThe Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine is a body corporate with perpetual succession which was established by the Coroners Act 1985. The Director of the Institute, Professor Stephen Cordner, holds the chair in Forensic Medicine at Monash University and the Institute's senior staff all hold equivalent honorary academic appointments in that department. The VIFM is based at the Coronial Services Centre, a purpose built facility in Kavanagh Street, Southbank, which also houses the State Coroners Office. Its principle functions are to provide forensic pathology and related scientific services, clinical forensic medicine services, teaching and research.
