Research Initiatives

Since 2004 a major strategy to improve research collaboration accross the university has been the establishment of cross-disciplinary research initiatives. Those initiatives Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences researchers are involved in are listed below.

Criminal Justice Research Consortium (CJRC)

The CJRC is a multi-disciplinary consortium focusing on various aspects of criminal justice and rehabilitation research including the formal and informal criminal justice processes (from policing to rehabilitation), women in the criminal justice system, corporate crime and risk assessment and mental health and criminal justice.

Healthy Start to Life research initiative (HSLri)

Research now shows that babies exposed to early environmental factors during development and early in postnatal life may have adverse consequences in adulthood. This ill health forms a perpetual cycle from one generation to the next. Informed through translational research, HSLri will find new ways to break this cycle of poor health so that young Australians reach their full potential.

Monash Infection and Immunity Network (MIIN)

The aim of the Monash Infection and Immunity Network (MIIN) is to bring together researchers with multiple disciplines from various nodes within both Monash University and external organisations with an interest in infection and immunity, and for these groups to be able to inform one another of their ongoing research and capabilities.

This will allow the ready identification of collaborative opportunities and required platform technologies across the network, in turn improving research output and performance through strategic funding and increased scientific awareness.

As well as from many Monash University Departments, Centres and Clinical Schools, MIIN includes members from external organisations such as CSIRO, Pfizer, CSL Limited, VIDRL, Primary Industries Research Victoria and The Burnet Institute.

Monash Research for an Ageing Society (MonRAS)

MonRAS is a research network that aims to consolidate and focus the research activities and resources of the entire university to enable a cross-faculty interdisciplinary approach to the study of ageing.

Since the initial concept to establish a multidisciplinary ageing research initiative at Monash University, the SPDU has been closely involved in the development of this proposal which resulted in university support for the launch of MonRAS in 2006.

Operating as a directorate facilitated network MonRAS provides a working model for a range of other collaborative initiatives at Monash University.
