Alison has been employed at Monash University in A/Prof Stuart Hooper's Lung Development group for over 10 years, first as a Technical Officer, then a Research Assistant and more recently as Senior Research Assistant. The Lung Development group's major area of interest lies in the development of the fetal and neonatal lung. Presently Alison is involved in the following research areas; the control of alveolar epithelial cell differentiation before and after birth and determining which forms of resuscitation/ventilation cause the least damage to the preterm lung. To address these research questions, the Lung Development group uses whole animal physiology, molecular biology and immunohistological techniques. Alison has extensive experince in all of these techniques and she also assists and instructs Honours and PhD students in learning these experimental techniques.
