AMC Education Program - 2008AMC Clinical Bridging CourseAssociate Professor Neil Spike, Director of Training and Assessment and Head of Department of General Practice, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences of Monash University will be again running the following courses to assist candidates preparing for Clinical Examinations in 2008. A/Professor Spike is a Senior Examiner with the Australian Medical Council, and has a background in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and assessment. He will be assisted by Dr. George Zaharias, a senior lecturer in the Department of General Practice. Structured Clinical Assessment CourseA/Professor Spike, Head of the Department of General Practice and the Director of Training and Assessment in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University will be running a 6 week course held each Tuesday from 10.00am to 5.00pm to assist candidates preparing for Clinical Examinations in 2008. A/Professor is a Senior Examiner with the Australian Medical Council, and has a background in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and assessment. He will be assisted by Dr. George Zaharias, a senior lecturer in the Department of General Practice and other Monash Academic staff. Medical students will also attend various sessions to assist participants in their role-plays and provide valuable insight into aspects of illness and health in the Australian context. The course will prepare you for the AMC clinical examination and will cover the required areas of Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Psychiatry. The course will assist you to develop a strategic approach to the clinical examinations. All participants will have the opportunity to participate in role-play scenarios and be reviewed by the course convenor. In order to be considered for a priority placing position, candidates are required to provide the following information to the Australian Medical Council with their form C2 application for the AMC Clinical Examinations;
Any candidate who does not attend or who fails to complete the requirements of the bridging course, will forfeit his/her clinical examination place. Those enrolled in the course will be given a Consulting Skills - Readings and Consulting Skills – Student Manual and will also have access to the learning laboratory including teaching via journals, videotapes, and also resources from the hospital library.
