Summary

The CHD Prevention Model involves modelling the incidence of fatal and non-fatal CHD within various CHD risk percentiles of an adult population. The method is based on applying risk prediction equations to prevailing mortality and morbidity data. The CHD Prevention Model has recently been published.

The model can be used to assess the cost effectiveness of various interventions in CHD, eg lipid-lowering medications, population-wide health promotion campaigns, heart surgery. This project will focus initially on primary interventions, but expand subsequently to examine secondary and tertiary programs, enabling cost-effectiveness analyses at all levels of cardiovascular health.
