Asian Collaboration for Excellence in Non-Communicable Disease
Welcome to the ASCEND Research Network! The Asian Collaboration for Excellence in Non-communicable Disease (ASCEND) Research Network provides early career researchers with the opportunity to develop and enhance their research skills and careers in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases in the Asian region.
The aim is to build a network of researchers across Asia all working towards combating the growing epidemic of chronic disease.
Recent News
Our 25 trainees from Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia and China have been hard at work on their various research projects as well as attending fortnightly online training sessions on range of topics that are designed to not only improve their research skills but their leadership skills. Topics have included: Leadership, Qualitative Research Skills, Writing for Publication, Comparing Health Systems, Translating Evidence into practice and many others.

Congratulations Dr. Sathish Thirunavukkarasu
The ASCEND Program would like to congratulate Sathish (ASCEND Trainee & Network Coordinator-India) for recently receiving not one but two scholarship offers to commence his doctoral studies at Monash University Australia. Sathish was awarded an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship from Monash University in December 2011 and he was then awarded the Victoria India Doctoral Scholarship (VIDS) from the Australia India Institute in January 2012. Sathish has accepted the VIDS scholarship and will be presented with a certificate by the Premier of Victoria, the Honourable Ted Baillieu in Delhi on the 26th of February 2012.

The ASCEND Program would like to thank Global Peers for Progress for their support of five ASCEND trainees, Priyanwada Amarasekara, Winnie Wong, Elezebeth Mathews, Aswathy Sreedevi and Uma Sankar who are all investigating different aspects of peer support as part of their research projects. Global Peers for Progress has generously provided each trainee with USD2000 to support the development of their research projects.
